Brazil forward Robinho celebrates after the Copa America victory over Argentina |
|
Chelsea’s manager Luiz Felipe Scolari was clearly a bitter man yesterday after it was announced that the player he had been targeting since his arrival at the club, Robinho, had moved to Manchester City instead.
It was almost a forgone conclusion once Spanish champions Real Madrid had accepted Chelsea’s ₤28.4 million deal that he would be at Stamford Bridge this season.
Scolari had been determined to land the twenty four year old Brazilian after he had successfully managed to bring thirty one year old Portuguese international Deco to the club from FC Barcelona for ₤8 million.
What had annoyed Real Madrid was the fact that Chelsea had ‘jumped the gun’ when, before the deal was actually ‘done and dusted’, they had been selling Chelsea shirts on-line with Robinho all over them.
Just before the transfer window closed at midnight on 1 September Manchester City, after their financial boost, came with a ₤32.5 million deal, to which Chelsea failed to respond.

Wasn't Robinho at the Olympics? They certainly were blasted by Argentina. This puts a crimp in Scolari's plans but CFC really were awesome before.
