AMSTERDAM (SW) - Ajax Amsterdam want Russian striker Roman Pavlyuchenko. This was revealed on Wednesday although technical director Danny Blind had mentioned his interest in the player before.

Pavlyuchenko (26) began his career at Rotor Volgograd and is now in his sixth season at Spartak Moscow. In 2006 and 2007, he became top scorer of the Russian Premier League.

Ajax are looking for a replacement for Klaas Jan Huntelaar, who is likely to leave the Amsterdam Arena for next season.

"Both sides had the intentions to extend the contract but the differences are too big right now to continue negotiations," said Blind about Huntelaar.

Pavlyuchenko is reportedly worth a transfer free of fifteen million Euros. It's everything but a done deal to Ajax as top clubs as Chelsea, Arsenal and Celtic declared their interest in the forward as well.

15M for 26 yrs old playing in a second rate league? Russians are guaranteed flops as they can't adapt abroad. The assholes will sell Huntellaar too so WTF will be MvBasten doing in Ajax? Next year they won't qualify even for UEFA and rightly so. The greedy bastards have destroyed a club that has been an institution in the world club football.
