REYKJAVIK, Oct 9 (SW) - In the first leg of UEFA Women's Cup Quarter Final Turbine Potsdam today achieved a 1-8 win versus Valur Reykjavik from Iceland. Turbine are now in a very goog position to reach the Semi Final. The second leg is on 16th October.

808 spectators (15 came from Potsdam) wanted to see this game. The first half of this match was balanced-out. Turbine Coach Bernd Schröder: "It seems to sound a bit strange, but in the first half it was a nailbiting match". Valur was dangerous with long passes - so Nadine Angerer had to save two good shots by striker Margret Lara Vidarsdottir (13'; 25'). Brazilian Cristiane could make the first goal in cold Iceland (4°C), but she had a bit luck, that her shot was deflected by Laufey Johannsdottir. The equalizer by Guona Björk Odansdottir out of near distance was a bit surprising (38'). Just before the break Ariane Hingst passed to Anja Mittag, who could score the second goal for Turbine.

In the second half the playing of Turbine Potsdam was much better. The 3-1 by Anja Mittag (58') was the beginning of the end for Valur. Short time later Cristiane (61', pass by Conny Pohlers) and Pohlers (64', pass by Cristiane) raised the result to 5-1. In the 83rd minute Karolin Thomas could make her goal in this match after a pass from Aferdita Podvorica, who came into the match five minutes before. Cristiane could make her third goal in this match two minutes later. Another two minutes later Petra Wimbersky scored the last goal standing right in front of the goal.

After the match Bernd Schröder said: "It was a strenuous journey, so our playing was absolutely satisfactory. The result is perfect for us, but it is to high. Reykjavik was not that bad." Cristiane just said: "It was a good match and I am happy about my goals." Margret Lara Vidarsdottir had to admit, that "Potsdam has a really good team" and that "Reykjavik will have no chance to reach the semi final". Valur coach Elisabet Gunnarsdottir was shocked about the result, that was to high: "We will make it more difficult in the second leg - perhaps we win."
