BERLIN, Nov 17 (SW) – The referee who admitted fixing football matches and subsequently rocked the whole German football world was given a two years and five months prison sentence today.

26-year-old Robert Hoyzer and fellow referee Dominik Marks were both found guilty of fixing a number of matches, including the since-notorious German cup game that saw minnows Paderborn overturn a 2-0 deficit into a 4-2 win over Bundesliga side Hamburg, thanks to two awarded penalties and a more-than-questionable numerical advantage (Emile Mpenza had been sent off by Hoyzer).

Marks was handed a one-and-a-half-year suspended sentence but Robert Hoyzer was jailed for two years and five months, following his heavy involvement in the match-fixing scandal, and the alleged €67,000 overall reward he got from his dubious actions.

Meanwhile, Croatian ringleader Ante Sapina was found guilty of having organized the €2 million gambling fraud and was also sentenced to two years and 11 months in prison, while both of his brothers escaped jail with suspended sentences.
